Pregnant and Waxing: The Best Solution For Hair Removal.

Hello there! This is Maddy, your esthetician and waxing specialist here at Casa PRANA. Today we are talking about pregnancy and waxing, what to expect, dos and don’ts and how waxing is the best option for hair removal for expecting mothers. I’m here to HELP YOU and guide you through the process so please feel free to add any questions, comments or concerns at the bottom of this post and I’ll be more than happy to answer them. Now, on to the fun stuff :)

No you’re not crazy. Yes ladies, it’s true. One day, you look in the mirror minding your own business, and all of a sudden you see a little mustachio growing that you swear wasn’t there last time you checked. Or my favorite, the freakin’ one inch black hair that just grew overnight, sticking out from your chin and you’re thinking, “How long has that been there? You mean I’ve been walking out in public with THAT on my chin? What the heck?!”

Here’s some food for thought; whenever we are talking about the hair on our body we are really talking about hormonal changes in our lives. We enter puberty: BOOM! “Houston, we have hair.” On the contrary, you enter menopause and miraculously you wake up one day to find you have LESS hair! I always joke that’s the one of the many plusses I look forward to when I enter that stage of my life. So naturally, when pregnant, your body is in hormone overdrive in order to help create that little life inside you. As you progress through your pregnancy, don’t be surprised if you see an increase or change in the amount, texture, or even new areas of hair growth. I want to be the first person to remind you that HAIR ON YOUR BODY IS NORMAL AND IT’S OK. It’s also normal and ok if you want to remove it. Personally, I find it totally normal, yet totally inconvenient when you live at beach central in Wilmington. What’s most important to remember when pregnant is that if you choose a hair removal method, choose one that is safe for you and the baby (and for the love of all that is good in the world, choose a trained professional to do the service.)

Sorry my preggers ladies, but laser hair removal is out when pregnant. Nope, can’t do it. Also remember if you plan to breastfeed, you might have to wait a little longer for your lazer treatments as well. While pregnant, your body is pumping and circulating extra blood. One positive to this is improved circulation and that envious pregnancy glow. A con is that depilatory creams, shaving, and epilators can cause further irritation to already sensitive skin.

Here at Casa PRANA, I take the time to ensure that your waxing experience is as comfortable as possible. I try to treat my clients exactly how I myself prefer getting waxed. As I write this post, I myself am 3 months pregnant with my first child. I’m not going to lie, waxing is a little more sensitive when pregnant. HOWEVER, I do find that having tried all there is to try when it comes to hair removal options, waxing is the only method that consistently leaves my skin with minimal irritation, ingrown hairs, and bumps. Waxing is also a service that is quick. Once it’s over I forget about it until my next 4 week appointment. I will say that after 15 years of personally seeking out waxing services for myself, that WHO waxes you is oh so very important.

You want to see someone who specializes in waxing from head to toe, and someone who works with expecting mothers (ESPECIALLY if this will be your first waxing appointment ever). The vegan wax I use is a very gentle formula made with only 3 ingredients to ensure minimal irritation or discomfort. The technique I use, I have mastered over the years to ensure you are the most comfortable, and have the best experience possible.

Yep. It happens to us all. There comes a time in every woman’s pregnancy where eventually you can’t see what’s going on down there. You know what I mean. It’s nice to have a professional take care of it for you instead of your partner or spouse. If your partner offers to help, hey BONUS POINTS for even offering but just give yourself some peace of mind knowing a professional’s got this. I always joke with my waxing clients and say, “You’ll be leaving with everything you need.” If you seek out a professional, all you need to do is relax and wax.

Something else to consider is about 2 weeks before your due date, it’s a great idea to come in for a touch up or what I call a “C section strip.” This is where I just wax the top bikini area in case you end up having a C section. This just helps reduce the risk of irritation or ingrown hairs, if it so happens you end up needing a C section. I also joke that if you want to go into labor on a specific day, schedule your appointment for that day. I’m not kidding when I say it happens A LOT.

Waxing while pregnant is going to be the best solution for you, because it leaves your skin smooth and hairless with minimal irritation and minimal discomfort. I recommend to all of my pregnant clients to stick to rescheduling every 4 weeks. If you keep up with your appointment, your hair will grow back thinner, finer, sparser. Keeping to a consistent schedule will also ensure that each session will be less and less tender. Come to Casa PRANA and see what I mean.

¡Nos vemos a la Casa!
