Hair-loss & Gut Health

Hair loss/thinning is a common issue that affects many people, and it can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, stress, and poor nutrition. However, recent research suggests that the health of our gut may also play a role in hair loss.

According to Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, "All disease begins in the gut." This statement highlights the importance of gut health in overall health and wellness. The gut is home to trillions of microorganisms, including beneficial bacteria that play a crucial role in our immune system, digestion, and nutrient absorption.

When the gut microbiome is out of balance, it can lead to a variety of health issues, including inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and even hair loss. In fact, studies have shown that an unhealthy gut can disrupt the production of essential hair growth hormones and lead to hair loss.

One way to support gut health and potentially prevent hair loss is through diet. Eating a balanced and diverse diet rich in gut-friendly foods, like stewed apples, can help feed the beneficial bacteria in our gut and improve overall gut health.

Why apples?

Apples are particularly beneficial for gut health as they are high in fiber, which helps promote regular bowel movements and support the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. The pectin in apples can also help reduce inflammation in the gut and improve digestion.

Additionally, the flavonoids in apples have anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties that can help support the health of the gut lining and prevent damage from harmful toxins and bacteria.

By incorporating more gut-friendly foods like stewed apples into our diet, we can support the health of our gut and potentially prevent hair loss. This  my all time favorite, simple and delicious recipe is a great snack that can be made in advance and enjoyed throughout the week.

To make stewed apples, simply:

Chop 6-8 small apples of your choice into small cubes and add orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, and fresh ginger slices to taste.

Add 1/4 cup of organic grapefruit juice and throw it all in a crockpot on high for about an hour, checking every 30 minutes until the apples are cooked to your desired firmness.

My favorite way to eat them is as a topping for Ancient Awakenings coconut kefir 🥥 for that extra gut support!

Happy gut healing!

Rebecca :)
